Lawyers In Port-Harcourt Protest Against Amaechi

Some lawyers in Port Harcourt. Under the name of concerned laywers forum made good their promise to protest against Governo Ameachi today. The protest started about 7 o clock this morning and lasted till about 9 o clock. The lawyers are protestinf against the failure of the governor to appoint a chief judge for about five months now. The lawyers blocked the entrance and exit points in to the court premises and carried placards with different inscriptions. The lawyers claim that the governors failure to appoint a chief judge is hampeering the judicial system as new cases filed within this period have not been assigned to any court and thus litigants and lawyers are being made to suffer. It would be recalled that the governor sent two names to the NJC for approval for the appointment of the new chief judge. The NJC approved justice D. Okocha to be appointed as the new chief Judge however the said justice D. Okocha was not governor Ameachi's choice. And so he disregarded the reccomendation of the NJC and went ahead to appoint the judge he favoured justice Agumagu asthe acting chief judge. Justice Agumagu acted for three months and left office and ever since no chief Judge has been appointed.
